Why So Many Schools Are Implementing A Solar Power For Schools Program
(And Why It Just Makes Sense)
Discover the reasons why so many schools are
implementing solar power for schools.
The Rising Trend In Solar Power For Schools
There is a reason why so many schools are implementing a solar energy at school program and a reason why it just makes sense for them to do it.
When you consider that installing solar power systems can cost $8,000 to $10,000 per kilowatt of power output, there is a way that schools can earn some of that money back through energy credits for the surplus power they generate and sell back to the utility grid.
Also, the solar energy at school programs provide a great way to teach students about the advantages of solar energy and can inspire them to learn more about becoming involved in the green energy careers, including solar power-related ones.
For Schools That Implement Solar Power, Pre-Paid Electricity Is An Added Bonus
When you think about solar power for schools as a way to pre-pay utility bills for the next 15 to 25 years, the savings become more obvious.
- In addition, teacher training is possible by teaching them about these smaller solar panel systems and the visible teaching curriculum is much easier for teachers to understand and relate to students.
- When solar energy at school programs become widespread, chances are that more students will have an interest in entering the growing field of solar energy.
Many School Districts Are Taking Advantage Solar Power For Schools
Several school districts have already taken advantage of the solar energy at school programs and the cost savings that can go along with it.
- For example, Norton, Massachusetts could save $350,000 over the next 25 years with their 25 kilowatt system, while a district in New York's Long Island will save $28,000 per year with their 111 kilowatt system, in addition to the rebate of $350,000 they got from a local utility company.
- In Hanford, California, a 788 kilowatt district-wide system could save the district more than $150,000 over the first five years in a power-purchase agreement and it also qualifies for more than $4 million in tax incentives and rebates.
- Those are some pretty large numbers, when you consider the incentives that the solar energy at school programs can offer monetarily, in addition to the educational opportunity.
At a time when many school districts might be having financial difficulties, installing solar energy at school in their districts might offer some relief in the form of lower utility bills and additional funding from government grants and incentives.
- The monetary advantages and educational opportunity are the largest reasons that solar power for schools is becoming more widespread.
- Schools that are going solar benefit both teachers and students, because both teachers and students can learn about solar power systems - firsthand.
Solar Power For Schools - The Bottom-Line - Students Get Exposed To A Technology That Is Blossoming
It is estimated that there will be a tremendous shortage of experienced help to work in the alternative energy occupations.
For the schools that are participating in a solar power for schools program, the advantages are quite clear.
- Not only can it better prepare teachers and students, but it can save large amounts of money and save tremendous amounts of traditional energy, as well.
